Wow! What a first full day we had here in China. After our long flight, we arrived at our hotel around 11:30 local time. We went to sleep and we woke up wide awake at.....1:30a.m. It was very frustrating, but we are trying to teach our bodies to sleep when we are usually wide awake. Brittany and I just figured that the lack of sleep for 30 or so hours would guarantee a good nights sleep. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. We ate breakfast here at the hotel (it felt more like a buffet in Las Vegas!-YUMMY!!) and went for a little walk before our trip to Tiannamen Square and the Forbidden City. We met all of the other couples who are adopting with us and got onto the bus at 8:30 a.m. It was a balmy 18 degrees, so we had to bundle up like eskimos for our adventure. What a beautiful trip it was, so rich in history and ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Trust me these pictures don't do it justice. After our tour we went to lunch with our group and had a great time eating, talking and laughing while we warmed up. I told Brittany I was really in the mood for some Chinese food, and she reminded me that here they just call that food....we ARE in China. OK, I felt like an idiot, LOL. We then all climbed back onto our bus and headed for a silk factory to watch and learn how they made silk. It truly is amazing how after the tour the workers all stopped and became salesmen trying to get us to buy silk comforters and stuff. We figured it may be a tourist trap, and of course it was. I guess some things are the same no matter where you are in the world. (We saw Chinese soldiers marching and doing drills in the Forbidden City, and one soldier was getting screamed at by the drill sargent from a distance of about 3 inches away from his face- I think that is universal too). We then came back to our hotel to take a nap before dinner. After waking up at 8pm (oops) we decided to just skip dinner and sleep some more. Sounds great to me! So, on that note, good night, and we will see you tomorrow!
